A Dance with Dragons is the fifth book in the A Song of Ice and Fire series by George RR Martin. It was the first novel in the series to be published following the commencement of the HBO series adaptation, Game of Thrones,. The War of the Five King is almost over. In the North, Stannis is at the Wall trying to win the support of the northmen to continue his struggle. Jon Snow is the new Lord Commander of the Night’s Watch, but has enemies both in the Watch and beyond the Wall. Tyrion is taken by ship to Pentos. On Slaver’s Bay, Daenerys has conquered Meereen, and has decided to stay and rule the city. Her presence is now known to many in Westeros and emissaries are on their way to find her and use her cause for their own ends. For a complete plot summary, visit WIKIPEDIA or the ASOIAF WIKI.
Major highlights include Stannis’ army being defeated by the Boltons, with his fate unknown (the TV series has him dead). Jon being assassinated by members of the Night’s Watch ala Julius Ceasar. Cersei walking naked in the streets of King’s Landing in atonement for her sins. Daenerys’ rule in Mereen is threatened by a rebellious group called The Sons Of The Harpy. It is sad to stop reading the series at this point while waiting for the 6th and 7th novels. The 6th season of the TV series is not enough for me. I want more!
